But here's where it gets controversial: the thefts are believed to have occurred between December 24, 2024, and December 28, 2025, while the victim was away for an extended period. This suggests a calculated and well-planned operation, with the offender(s) taking advantage of the victim's absence.
Among the stolen items are a John Perceval "Sunflowers" painting worth over $75,000, three Cris Canning paintings valued between $30,000 and $50,000 each, two antique Chinese paintings worth more than $10,000 each, and a pearl strand valued at over $50,000. But the thieves didn't stop there; they also made off with household items like vacuums and tools, and even a "substantial" wine collection, as described by the police.
Detective Sergeant Warren Atkinson commented on the distressing nature of the incident, stating, "This has had a considerable impact on the victim. The list of stolen items is extensive, well above $400,000, but we can't estimate the value of several items, so the actual total is likely much higher."
Atkinson also highlighted the sentimental value of some of the stolen items, including a sculpture the victim purchased over 50 years ago in Germany. "We believe the offender(s) identified that the victim had been away from the property for some time and took advantage of the opportunity to revisit the premises repeatedly," he said.
