Kenya's Ministry of Defence is seeking applications for civilian staff positions within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The ministry is looking to fill over 45 positions, including 30 gardener assistants and 15 sanitary cleaners. These roles offer competitive salaries and benefits, with the potential for permanent employment and pensionable terms. The ministry emphasizes fair and equal consideration, regardless of tribe, age, gender, or colour, and warns against any unlawful attempts to secure a position. Applications are free, and the ministry encourages all Kenyans to apply. To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a valid national identity card and a minimum of a D plain in KCSE. Gardeners will receive a basic salary of between Ksh19,000 and Ksh24,000, a house allowance, a KSh 3,000 commuter allowance, and a leave allowance of Ksh 4000 per year. Sanitary cleaners will earn a basic salary of between Ksh18,000 and Ksh22,000, with the same commuter and leave allowances. The KDF is committed to supporting military operations through civilian roles, which are distinct from those of uniformed military personnel. These roles allow individuals to contribute to the KDF without undergoing intense training. The ministry has also launched the Career Progression Guidelines (CPGs) for civilian staff, ensuring structural growth and subsequent promotions. This announcement follows other recent vacancies for civilians, including artisan roles, clerical positions, and professional cadres, with over 800 jobs announced by the Public Service Commission. The ministry encourages interested candidates to complete the application form and submit it to the principal secretary, Ministry of Defence Office, before January 20, 2026, for consideration.
